New Orleans proved yesterday that it was indeed recession resistant, as it enjoyed its largest Mardi Gras crowds since Katrina hit in 2005. Even though it feels like the memory of packed restaurants and overcrowded bars is already turning into an urban legend, for New Orleans that reality is very much alive. Unfortunately, the parade was scattered with violence outbursts, with multiple shootings reported across the city that resulted in 12 people being injured. Despite the gunshots, financially speaking, New Orleans managed to party like it's 1999.

Yeah, but pre-recession and Katrina they wouldnt settle for anything less than 30 gun shot injuries. Its like they've taken a pay cut.
