Mapping The Great Recession
Category: Practical Info
By Bryan Carlin on March 04, 2009

The New York Times has a useful map showing the extent and the spread of the current economic meltdown as it has effected unemployment rates in just about every county in the US.

The “capital” of the Recession: Imperial County, CA, in the desert east of San Diego, sporting a 22.6% unemployment rate. Nice work! Nice pun!   The only place that has been relatively spared is the Great Plains stretching from North Dakota to Texas.  All you speculators out there who bought into the Western Iowa housing boom, don’t worry, your investment is still safe.

With a name like Imperial they were kind of asking for it.

And good for the Great Plains! They haven't received news this good since... since... Could it be this is the best news they've ever received?
