Discount Private Shopping Clubs Flourish In Recessionary Times

A growing trend, covered by TechCrunch, is the rise of private shopping clubs that are flourishing online. Sites such as GiltGroupe and Ideeli sell season-old designer labels to an invite-only group for a steep discount, typically up to 50% off retail price, but sometimes as much as 75% or more. 

As opposed to overstock.com and other mass discount sites, these sites use their “exclusivity” to get higher-end brands involved without the fear of their brands getting tarnished by the great unwashed masses. You know, poor people.
